HOME A1 OPEN - Summer Art Exhibition

The Station:
A vibrant environment for artists and audiences

Attractively situated near the banks of England’s fastest flowing river, the Swale, The Station is Richmond’s newest and most popular attraction.

This magnificent Grade II* Listed Victorian railway terminus has been sympathetically restored by the Richmondshire Building Preservation Trust. It opened as a leisure and business facility last November and houses a two screen cinema, meeting rooms, a large open-plan restaurant, art exhibition areas, a heritage centre, offices and six artisan food producers.

The historic platform setting and newly installed mezzanine are ideally suited for staging a major art exhibition, and it is intended that this year’s exhibition will be the first of many.

As a charity The Station is operated on a non-profit basis. We rely on the generosity of people like you to keep everything ticking over smoothly. All income raised from the A1 Open Summer Art Exhibition will be reinvested in developing other facilities in The Station and the staging of further attractions in the building for the benefit of the residents of the district and the one-million plus visitors who are attracted to the town every year.

To maintain the wonderful facilities which The Station has to offer, the charity needs to find around £225,000 each year. We receive no regular contributions from local government or any other grant-making bodies. It is purely down to us to make ends meet.

Artists are invited to submit paintings in a variety of media for the exhibition. There is no particular theme, and entries can be experimental, adventurous, traditional or contemporary. Young artists are welcomed.
